About me

My name is Susana Romão and I’m a portuguese artist graduated in Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon.

My head is allways filled with strange universes populated with all manner of objects and creatures which find themselves interacting with each other. The participants in these little stories are sometimes curious, other times frightened or even bewildered trying to understand how they came to be a part of such places. I like to capture particular moments in these improbable interactions and put them into my work.

I currently live in Sintra (Portugal) with the gentle company of Sura, my Pekingese dog and my two white cats, Hoshi and Yuki. I like to work on paper and canvas and I’m specially fond of engraving just because of the level of detail it allows and the way the final result feels.

I like to mix different techniques, materials and textures. And, for that reason, old patterned fabrics and vintage prints make me smile inside and never fail to inspire. If you take a stroll in Lisbon’s old downtown, you will certainly find me gazing at dusty old posters in some secondhand bookstore. In there, I may discover some old picture, a strange object or an interesting character that, later on, will inexplicably find itself stranded in a peculiar and unfamiliar world.
